You Have Rights - You Have Support
With President Trump back in office, it’s important to remember that no matter your immigration status, you have rights when interacting with federal officials.
Know your Rights
At your place of residence, you do not need to open your door unless agents have a warrant that is signed by a judge. You should ask that agents pass the warrant under the door. In a public setting, such as at work, stay calm. Ask agents if you are under arrest.
Remember that no matter your legal status, you have the right to remain silent if you are arrested. You also have the right to call your attorney. Do not speak with ICE officials until you have consulted with your attorney. Keep your attorney’s number on hand, and keep important documents in a safe place in case of an emergency. Make a plan with family and friends so that you know what to do in these situations.
Local Resources
Organizations like the Massachusetts Immigrants and Refugees Advocacy Coalition provide training on your rights, resources for immigrants, and information on the immigration process. Check out their website for more information on the programs they offer.
