Sen. Eldridge and Rep. Sena Announce $200,000 to Make Sandy Pond Road More Accessible

MassDOT award will make Ayer road pedestrian, bike, and ADA-compliant

AYER — State Sen. Jamie Eldridge (D-Marlborough) and State Rep. Danillo Sena (D-Acton) announce $200,000 to install new ADA compliant curb ramps, sidewalk, bike lanes, and pavement marking improvements on Sandy Pond Road.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) announced the award of $6.5 million in funding to 28 municipalities and 2 Regional Transit Authorities (RTAs) as part of the Healey-Driscoll Administration’s Shared Streets and Spaces Program. The program provides project funding to help Massachusetts cities and towns design and implement changes to curbs, streets, and parking areas in support of public health, safe mobility, and community growth and revitalization.

As a proponent of accessibility in transportation, Senator Eldridge advocated for this funding, knowing the incredible benefit to the community this project would have especially for residents with disabilities.

“Maintaining and improving our infrastructure is key for the development of Massachusetts’ economy and the quality of life of its residents,” said Senator Eldridge. “We must prioritize maintaining our roads and sidewalks to ensure that all Massachusetts residents are able to navigate our beautiful communities. I am proud to work with my House colleague Representative Sena on making Sandy Pond Road more accessible to all.”

“I am happy to see this grant go into effect as we work to make Sandy Road more accessible, and I'm thankful to Sen. Eldridge for his partnership on this issue.” said Representative Danillo Sena. “Our infrastructure must be available to all in our community, and I'm excited to see this step towards accessibility in Ayer.”

The award for this project was one of two that Senator Eldridge received for his district, the other being $187,450.00 to create and fund three years of a regional bikeshare program in the Towns of Acton, Concord, Lincoln and Maynard.
