Senator Eldridge and Rep. Sena announce $1,534,000 grant awarded to Brook Village Condominium Association
The funding will assist in remediating PFAS contaminants in drinking water
BOXBOROUGH, MA – State Senator Jamie Eldridge (D-Marlborough) and State Representative Danillo Sena (D-Acton) announced that the Brook Village Condominium Association was awarded $1,534,000 in grant funding through the MassDEP’s Emerging Contaminants in Small or Disadvantaged Communities Grant Program.
The funding comes from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Emerging Contaminants in Small or Disadvantaged Communities (EC-SDC) Grant Program. Established in 2023 the program provides individual states with funds to assist small and disadvantaged communities in improving drinking water through projects that address contaminants listed by the EPA.
The Brook Village Condominium Community is a 19-acre, 192 unit complex in Boxborough. In coordination with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP), and the Littleton Electric Light and Water Department , the funding will be used to address PFAS contaminants. This neighborhood in Boxborough also has an Environmental Justice designation, mostly based on the median income of its residents.
“This transformative funding opportunity for small communities like the Brook Village Condominium Community will catalyze efforts to address emerging contaminants including PFAs in drinking water,” said State Senator Jamie Eldridge (D - Marlborough). “This project involves consolidating Brook Village Condominium with Littleton Water Department to address PFAS contamination via a new water line. I am extremely grateful to the Healey-Driscoll Administration and Secretary Rebecca Tepper (MassDEP) for making a significant investment in critical water quality infrastructure that will improve public health and economic opportunities for the Brook Village Condominium Community in Boxborough.”
“This grant has been essential in helping our communities find innovative ways to treat pollutants like PFAS, said State Representative Danillo Sena (D- Acton). “I’m happy to hear that the Brook Village Condominium Association received this funding to support this important project, and I’m thankful for the work of the Healey-Driscoll administration and the Mass DEP in providing and distributing the funding necessary for such projects.”
